Szeged is the third largest city in Hungary. It lies on the banks of the Tisza on the Southern Great Plain. It provides an excellent living and learning environement for students.

 

The University of Szeged traces its roots back to 1581 with the foundation of the Academia in Cluj. Presently the University is among the biggest and most distinguished Universities in Hungary, with nearly 30,000 students and more than 7,000 employees. The University of Szeged has 12 faculties, among them the Faculty of Medicine, the Faculty of Dentistry and the Faculty of Pharmacy which form one of the largest health educational complexes in Hungary.

 

A number of outstanding professors work and have worked here, including Albert Szent-Gyorgyi former Biochemistry professor, Dean, Rector and Nobel Laureate, who was the first to isolate Vitamin C, extracting it from Szeged paprika. His outstanding skills and activities contributed to Szeged becoming one of Europe’s most signifcant centres for life-sciences and uniting laboratories of the University of Szeged and the Biological Research Centre of the Hungarian Academy of Sciences. 

 

The University offers students a challenging environment to prepare for their careers in Medicine and Health Care. 

 

Admissions are based on successfully passing an Entrance Exam in English, Chemistry and Biology and an interview to evaluate knowledge in the above subjects and student’s motivation.

 

Ranking: QS (Quacquarelli Symonds) has published the latest ranking of universities in Emerging Europe and Central Asia (EECA) with the region’s top 150 universities on 21st October 2015. The University of Szeged (USz) is ranked  13th place in this ranking.
