Hungary

Hungary lies in Central Europe, a bridge between the East and the West. It is situated in the Carpathian Basin and is bordered by Austria, Slovakia, Croatia, Slovenia, Serbia, and the Ukraine.

Hungary is an extremely beautiful country with rolling plains, hills, mountains, lakes, rivers and the queen of European rivers, the Danube that flows right through it. It is also rich in history, architecture, literature, art and music. A number of places in Hungary have been chosen for EDEN (European Destination of ExcelleNce)

Hungary is a member of the European Union, NATO, the OECD, the Visegrád Group, and the Schengen Agreement. The official language is Hungarian, which is the most widely spoken non-Indo-European language in Europe.

Hungary has a long and varied history but since 1989 it has again become a democratic parliamentary republic, and a developed country. Hungary is a popular tourist destination attracting 10.2 million tourists a year.  It is home to the largest thermal water cave system and the second largest thermal lake in the world (Lake Hévíz), the largest lake in Central Europe (Lake Balaton), and the largest natural grasslands in Europe (the Hortobágy).
