Charles University in Prague

The Czech Republic's largest and most prestigious university, the 666 year old Charles University, is also its oldest, and the oldest in all of Central and Eastern Europe. Founded in 1348 and sanctioned by the Czech King and Holy Roman Emperor Charles IV himself, the University was multicultural from the start, composed of Czech, Bavarian, Saxon and Polish “nations.” It has kept up its tradition of being multicultural and today students from all over the world study here in a vibrantly international atmosphere.

Presently, the University is comprised of 17 faculties. It has graduated some of the most famous Czech leaders and thinkers history, including Max Brod (writer and close friend of Kafka), writers Bohumil Hrabal and Milan Kundera, and physicist Nikola Tesla, among many others. In fact, even Albert Einstein himself taught at the German section of the University before the War. It is not surprising that today it is ranked among the world's top Universities.
