2nd Faculty of Medicine

The distinguished 2nd  Faculty of Medicine, Charles University, is ranked as as the top Medical School in the Czech Republic. The Faculty is based in Motol, Prague. The Faculty offers both pre-graduate and post graduate programs in Medicine to students, doctors and other professionals working in different Medical fields.

 

Presently around a 1000 students are studying at the Faculty. Students come from all over the world to study in a friendly, encouraging and supportive international atmosphere.

 

The Teaching Hospital at Motol, which is the largest hospital in the Czech Republic and counted among the biggest hospitals in Europe is the clinical base of the 2nd Faculty.  The hospital has approximately 2300 beds, 690 of which are in the paediatric section, while 1230 are in the adult the section. 

The hospital provides medical care in all medical fields for inhabitants of Prague extending if required to the whole of the Czech Republic. Annually, over 750,000 outpatients are treated at the hospital, and over 70,000 patients are admitted. About 800 doctors work here. 

 

 All departments of the paediatric section are highly specialized, and some of their activities like oncology, haemodialysis, epileptology, etc are unique in the Czech Republic. The Faculty also offers education in unique Paedriatic specialities.

 

Reasearch: Research is encouraged by the Faculty and during the programme the student is also supposed to demonstrate his/her scientific research abilities.

 

The Undergraduate Medical Program: 

 

Pregraduade students of the 2nd Faculty of Medicine complete a full time six-year study program, which is organised into two parts of three years each; the theoretical part and the clinical part. From the beginning and throughout their education students are encouraged to meet patients to establish a rapport with them, while gaining an underrstanding of clinical medicine. After 6 years  graduation takes place in the medieval hall of Carolinum as it has traditionally done for centuries, and the graduates are granted the degree ‘Doctor of Medicine’ - abbreviated as ‘MUDr.’ a qualification enabling them to work in Europe, the Middle-East and many other countries around the world. 

 

Application Requirements and Procedures:

 

Students who have completed high school with three Science subjects; Biology, Chemistry and Physics are eligible to apply to the 2nd Faculty of Medicine. Students who have already graduated from high school prior to 2014, are fresh graduates this year or will graduate by the summer of 2014 are all eligible to start their studies in the Autumn of 2014 at the 2nd Faculty of Medicine, Charles University. 

Admission is based on one of the following two: 

 

1.  A SAT II ( Biology, Chemistry and Physics) score of 1850 or above. Please note that 2nd Faculty does not accept Math only Physics. SAT scores cannot be more than 1 year old. The last date for submitting SAT scores is 30th june 2015.

 

Please, state in the SAT Test Registration form that your original scores should be sent to the Charles University, 2nd Faculty of Medicine in Prague. The Faculty's code is 7298.

 

Please Note: SAT scores are only accepted by post. As the SAT scores may take time you are advised by us to arrange with College Board to send rush scores to the Faculty as soon as the scores are announced. This might still take two to three weeks so students are advised to sit for their SAT II no later than May.

 

2. Passing an Entrance Exam based on high school knowledge of Biology, Chemistry and Physics and Reasoning. For 2014 the students will have to travel to Prague as this years applicants do not fulfill the quota required to hold an entrance exam in Kuwait. We will arrange all their travel and other requirements.

2nd Faculty of Medicine encourages high quality educational performances and the best students are refunded a significant proportion of their tuition expenses.

 

 

Post Graduate Course in Biomedicine: 

 

The 2nd Faculty of Medicine provides postgraduate scientific training to prepare Faculty graduates for independent work in the field of basic and clinical research. To be eligible students have to pass the entrance procedure. The program offers both internal studies (3 years) or distance learning (5 years) . Successful completion of the course requires the passing of the Ph.D. examination and the defence of a thesis written on the basis of published scientific reports.
